The brief was to redesign the Small Business landing page and subsequent pages to enable small business owners to search and navigate this area of the site. The majority of users visiting this page are very time poor and often have a good idea of the type of information they’re looking for, so a navigation system that could do this was vital. However there are users that may be new to small business, and while this information is very useful, it can be quite dry – it was our job to find a system that could display this is a digestible way.
As a part of a small team, myself and a junior visual designer overseen by an art director, it was my role to start on the wireframing from some previously developed Information Architecture. As the primary users are so time poor, we were challenged to find a solution that would allow them to drill down to find what they might be searching for. NAB products that were relevant to this user were to be included as well as popular NAB tools such as their calculators. We were challenged to make it as engaging as possible through the newly developed NAB illustration and photography style, as well as showing the possibilities of tasteful micro interactions we were given some room to explore this as well as some new components to add to the style-guide.
I was mostly responsible for the design of the article landing pages and article pages themselves where I developed a lot of the icons and type styling. I was also involved in an impromptu whiteboarding session midst the design process to work directly with the client to solve some of the UX issues.
We worked around the clock to deliver a responsive design for the Small business landing page, article landing page, article pages in a very short timeframe that consolidated all the small business articles in one place allowing users to find information more easily as well as fitting in with the new branding. This project was also successful due to the collaboration of a new design team, we came together to fill in the gaps wherever possible, sharing knowledge and working efficiently together.
